The Lutheran Church teaches that Holy Communion and Baptism are Holy Sacraments. The sacraments were instituted by Jesus and include promises such as the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. At Bethany we practice an open stance toward anyone who desires to participate in the sacraments whether you are a Bethany member, attender, or haven’t yet been to a Bethany service of worship.
Baptism
Baptism is open to any baby, child, or adult who wishes to respond to God’s call to follow Jesus. In the case of infants, parents and sponsors make promises on behalf of their child in a public setting to raise their child in the faith. The community also makes promises to support the child as they grow in faith. At their confirmation (9th grade) your child will formally affirm their faith in their baptism.
Communion (recommended for 8-12 yrs)
Holy Communion is open to any child or adult who wishes to receive the elements as part of their faith journey. In the case of a child, Bethany requires an orientation to be attended by both a parent and child. The orientation is offered twice a year and is open to kids and students of all ages, 2nd grade is recommended.

There will be one class one week during each hour of Journey Kids. Parents (or another adult) are invited to attend the class as well. Then, 3rd & 4th graders will receive their very own Bible in worship on February 9th.
