The Vision Behind Rooted and Rising
Bethany’s vision is simple and bold: to inspire people to follow Jesus so that more and more people experience the love of God on a daily basis. That vision shapes everything we do—from the way we worship, to how we welcome guests, to how we serve our community. It’s the reason this congregation exists, and it’s what drives us to keep growing into the church God is calling us to be. The vision for the next season of ministry is clear: to become a community where invitation is easy, transformation is real, and the challenge to grow is expected. We believe faith isn’t a program to attend but a life to live—one formed in worship, strengthened in relationship, and expressed in service. When we talk about Rooted and Rising, we’re not just talking about construction. We’re talking about creating the kind of spaces purpose-built around our core values of Spiritual Formation, Community Enrichment, and Kingdom Building. It is these values that serve as the foundation for our vision to come alive:

Spiritual Formation
The Challenge: In 2026, First Steps Preschool and Childcare will celebrate 30 years of sharing the gospel with the youngest generation. What started as a small ministry has now outgrown its current space. Ninety of our youngest kids are waitlisted because small, outdated rooms force us to limit our teaching ratios and turn away families seeking Christian education for their children.
The Vision: Imagine a new and expanded state-of-the-art facility where every child on our waitlist can experience God’s love, and where families don’t have to choose between quality care and Christian values
The Challenge: Bethany’s nursery, the most critical Sunday morning room for young families, desperately needs reimagining to welcome first-time families and the next generation. With an aging configuration, the room diminishes the value we place on guests and members needing a warm and open environment.
The Vision: Imagine an expanded, vibrant space where babies and toddlers can play and grow without constraints, limiting our ability to welcome new families.
The Challenge: Approximately 100 middle school students gather on Wednesday nights to experience God’s truth and love through our Transform program. Without dedicated small group rooms, classes scatter throughout the building, chapel, preschool rooms, gathering areas, offices, and even hallways. Growth is limited by a lack of appropriate space.
The Vision: Imagine dedicated spaces designed specifically for middle school groups to explore faith, ask hard questions, and build lasting friendships centered on Christ.

Community Enrichment
The Challenge: Bethany is at its best when the whole community gathers to celebrate, learn and serve in faith together. Limited access to usable space restricts our ability to enjoy congregation-wide fellowship and learning opportunities for multi-generational nights.
The Vision: Imagine multiple flexible spaces where adults and kids can simultaneously dive deep into God’s Word, support each other through life’s challenges, and grow in spiritual maturity together.
The Challenge: Our common areas, essentially hallways, were designed to efficiently move people in and out of the building. The effect divides our worshipping community into separate groups, each with a different lobby and a different door, which moves our congregation apart.
The Vision: Imagine walking into Bethany and immediately feeling the warmth of a space designed for relationships. Expanding an open concept lobby unites our congregation visibly and invites guests and members to belong to one another. Bethany becomes a new “third place” where friends meet over coffee, adults meet for small groups, and parents wait in the café for their confirmation student.
The Challenge: Aging HVAC systems, along with first generation kitchens and bathrooms, lower first impressions, limit flexibility for community events, and increases costs for operations.
The Vision: Invest in state-of-the-art upgrades to the building operations to support efficiency and program flexibility, and overall comfort for guests and members alike.

Kingdom Building
The Challenge: Daytime programs have reached capacity due to security restrictions during school hours. In addition, public events require lockdown procedures for our First Steps students, which limits our ability to host midweek ministry opportunities that support adults of all ages—including young families.
The Vision: Imagine a weekday ministry environment where seniors, adults, and young families each have meaningful opportunities to connect, grow, and experience care. Picture daytime health and wellness programs, parenting workshops, adult faith-formation classes, and creative arts opportunities that not only enrich seniors but also meet the practical and spiritual needs of adults and families in earlier stages of life. In every gathering, we create natural moments to share the hope of Jesus—whether with aging parents seeking support, adults navigating busy seasons, or young families laying spiritual foundations for their children.
The Challenge: Our emerging Bethany Refuge Ministry serves immigrant and refugee families, but current space limitations restrict our impact. These families need gathering spaces, children’s programming, and comprehensive support services.
The Vision: Imagine daytime ESL classes, tutoring services for children, case management support, job placement assistance, and safe spaces where refugee families experience God’s love through practical care.
The Challenge: Bethany’s Food Program has established a reputation in Elkhorn as consistent, steady, and dependable. But with food insecurity growing exponentially, space limitations for programs must be addressed.
The Vision: Daytime public access increasingly turns the Bethany campus into a hub of God’s grace. Where volunteer opportunities from the youngest to the oldest interface with those seeking the tangible love of God.
The Plan
Expanding Our Home. Extending His Kingdom.
This campaign is both practical and spiritual. It’s about more than buildings—it’s about reach. About preparing a church home that reflects the energy of our ministry and makes room for the people God is bringing next: families searching for faith, students longing for purpose, neighbors looking for belonging, and friends who need hope.
YEAR 1: Relocate
We will build a new 15,000 sf building west of our Activity Center to relocate First Steps Preschool and Childcare and create a home for Bethany’s early childhood ministries. These programs will alleviate the waitlist and increase our capacity to connect Bethany to new families each year —many experiencing church for the first time. By relocating and updating these spaces, we strengthen a vital bridge to the next generation and nurture lifelong faith from the very beginning.
YEAR 2: Replace
Much of our current infrastructure has served faithfully for decades and now needs renewal. Replacing first generation of mechanical systems, kitchens, and bathrooms ensures that Bethany remains a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors. Updating what’s worn out clears the way for ministry to flourish without distraction.
YEAR 3: Renovate
We will renovate the front of our building and the older, smaller spaces to expand the open concept lobby that will serve as the heartbeat of our community. From spaces for small groups on comfortable couches, conversation after worship in the new café, or larger group gatherings with food and coffee, centralizing our campus with a space filled with light and activity will amplify the life that fills this congregation. These spaces will continue to foster learning and community for years to come.

This vision isn’t about what we can accomplish in our own strength—it’s about what God can do through our faithful obedience and generous partnership. Each offering, given in faith, becomes part of what God is building here—trusting that the One who has done immeasurably more in our past will continue to provide for our future.

The Rooted and Rising Campaign Goal $5 million
This goal empowers Bethany to grow-rooted in our foundation and rising in strength and reach. It includes:
Stretch Goal $7.5 million
Reaching this milestone provides an additional $2.5 million for campus enhancements. These improvements—such as pickleball courts, new ball fields, upgraded lighting, and landscaping—will expand ministry opportunities through youth camps, family activities, and sports leagues for all ages.
Stewardship Note: Delaying replacement of outdated facilities and mechanical systems increases the risk of unexpected expenses outside the operating budget, potentially impacting existing ministries.
What it Will Take to Achieve Our Goal
Together To fully attain our goal of $5 M the following gifts in the quantities listed will need to be received by Bethany Lutheran Church.

Contributions to the Rooted and Rising Campaign may be committed in the form of a one-year gift or a three-year pledge gift. Payments toward commitments will be gratefully received on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual basis and on a beginning/ ending schedule convenient to you.

If you are making a donation from your investment portfolio, please alert Theresa so she can confirm that the gift has been received and designated to this campaign as intended.
- Cash or check. Write “Rooted and Rising Campaign” on the envelope or check memo line.
- Online giving. Use the Give link on our website to make an electronic donation via checking account, savings account, debit card, or credit card. “Rooted and Rising” select from the drop-down menu.
- Stock or Mutual Funds. Use the Give link on our website to select Stocks and take advantage of potential tax savings. “Rooted and Rising” select from the drop-down menu.

Q: What am I being asked to do?
A: Pray first. Ask God to guide you in how you might participate in Rooted and Rising. Then make a financial commitment— whatever fits your circumstances and calling. Some will give a one-time gift; others will make a pledge spread out over three years. Every response matters. You will start this journey by filling out and returning an intent card with a financial commitment.
Q: When will gifts be received, and how long will the campaign last?
A: The three-year giving period will begin in late Spring 2026 and end in Spring 2029. Gifts can be given weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually—whatever works best for you.
Q: Is my gift above and beyond what I already give to Bethany?
A: Yes. Your regular giving continues to support Bethany’s ongoing ministry—worship, outreach, and daily operations. Your above and beyond gifts to Rooted and Rising are an additional expression of faith that makes this once-in-a-generation project possible.
Q: What if I can’t make a large gift?
A: That’s okay. Every gift counts. When all of us participate, generosity multiplies. God does amazing things when His people give together.
Q: Can I give assets other than cash?
A: Absolutely. Some households may choose to give from stock, mutual funds, IRAs, donor-advised funds, or other assets. These kinds of gifts can offer tax advantages and often make a larger impact than expected. If you’re interested, our finance team can help with the details.
Q: How will these funds be used?
A: Every dollar designated for Rooted and Rising will go directly toward the campaign goals: relocating and renewing early childhood spaces, and replacing and renovating facilities.
Q: What if circumstances change after I make my commitment?
A: Life happens. Your pledge is a statement of intent, not a legal contract. If you need to adjust your commitment, simply let us know.
Q: Why does this campaign matter?
A: Rooted and Rising is about preparing Bethany to serve the next century of believers. Together, we’re expanding our home and extending His kingdom—trusting that God will do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.
Q: Will we need to increase debt?
A: In order to finish all phases Bethany will need to meet the 5 million goal, plus additional debt. Any debt increase will be offset by the projected revenue from the lease arrangement between First Steps and the Church.
