Summer 2015 Snapshot - ELCA National Youth Gathering

The time we got to spend in Detroit was truly amazing. We got to meet people from all over the country, but one of the best parts was watching the students build relationships with kids from our area. We spent a lot of time with a few other churches from our area, and the students loved it. You could really see how important it was to the students to build a community together. The city of Detroit does not have the best reputation, but I can honestly tell you that it is an amazing city. The people from Detroit have so much pride in their city. It was awesome to see how much just our presence in the city meant to them. We were able to do some great work while we were there. We worked at a food bank and we were able to get enough food to hand out to over 7,000 families. The students were able to see how the work they did actually helped people. It was incredible!
